A Knesset committee headed by MK Amnon Cohen (Shas ) accepted the request of Interior Minister Eli Yishai (Shas), who sought to delay elections for the Katzir-Harish Local Council originally scheduled for January. Shas is planning to transform the secular community of Harish into a large ultra-Orthodox community. The committee’s decision means that Nissim Dahan of Shas, who currently heads the Katzir-Harish Local Council, will remain in place for another two years depite opposition from local residents.
