The State Comptroller’s report on the Carmel Fire places overall responsibility for the low level of preparedness of the fire services on the whole government, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  The report places special responsibility on Interior Minister Eli Yishai who is in charge of the fire services and on Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz who conditioned the transfer of funds to the fire services on their completion of an organizational reform. Human rights organizations filed a High Court petition to stop a plan by the Interior and Welfare Ministries to return to their families 20 migrant children who were removed from their parents’ custody due to neglect or abuse, and to deport the families. (Ynetnews)

Haredi residents of Beit-Shemesh stoned a vehicle passing through town and broke one of its windows.  It is suspected that the female driver was attacked because her dress was deemed “immodest”. (Haaretz)
