Rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe, chair of the “Eretz Israel Shelanu” (Our Land of Israel) movement, in an interview for Kol Israel, referred to security forces evacuating settlements as “terrorists in black”, and stated that they must be opposed with force – including beating and use of rubber-coated bullets. He also referred to Netanyahu and Barak as “bitter enemies”.
According to information presented by the State Attorney to the Supreme Court of Justice, only 30% of illegal construction in Jewish settlements has been demolished in the last three years. Of illegal construction in Palestinian settlements in the West Bank, only 13% has been demolished.
A soldier from the Givati brigade, serving in a military operations room, did not forward a report that arrived to the battalion about structures in a settler stronghold, however claimed that the report was forwarded, and that the deployed forces went to the site and saw that all was in order. He was dismissed from the brigade and sentenced to 30 days’ incarceration.
Inspectors of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Labor raided hothouses in the south of Israel and found 12 Bedouin children aged 9-14 who were employed under harsh conditions and were even subject to beatings during their work. The police, which were also called in, took the children, the contractor, and the work foreman for further investigation at a nearby police station. Likewise, the children’s parents were also called in, and gave testimonies.
A report of the Israel National Council for the Child indicates that Israel has the highest marriage rate for minors in the Western world. Over 4,600 females under the age of 18 are married in Israel, annually. Furthermore, the report also shows that there are minors under the age of 17, whose marriages are not registered by the Ministry of Interior.
The Jerusalem Municipality Planning and Construction Committee approved two construction plans in East Jerusalem, beyond the Green Line. 92 housing units are planned for the Talpiot Mizrach neighborhood and 32 more units are planned for the Pisgat Zeev neighborhood. According city council chair of the Likud, Adv. Elisha Peleg, there is no importance to the fact that the 124 housing units will be constructed beyond the Green Line, “because it is obvious that the only available reserves of land in Jerusalem are beyond the historical Green Line.”
Demolitions orders were served on structures on the Avichai Lookout, located on Hill 18. The orders will come into force in three days. In response to being served with these orders, residents began building another house. In protest for the demolition orders, settlers stoned an Arab-owned vehicle near Bay Ayin, and smashed its windows. (Hebrew)
Twenty ultra-orthodox (haredi) high school students from Bnei Brak have not been going to school since the beginning of the year. Their parents claim that the “Ashkenazi” seminar schools are refusing to admit them. There are three central seminars which the parents claim to be operating quotas of Sephardic girls: the Wolf Seminar, The Beit Yaakov Seminar (headed by Rabbi Meir), and the Beit Yaakov Seminar (headed by Rabbi Kahane). A Palestinian from the Nablus area filed a complaint with the Civil Administration about Ma’ale Ephraim settlers, who chased him from the field where he had been with his sheep, and then burned the sheep. His claims, which are corroborated by B’Tselem, that 12 of the sheep burned to death and another five were badly hurt. (Hebrew)
