Tel Aviv Municipal Council Member, Binymain Babaioff (Shas), asked in a letter to the Mayor, Ron Huldai, and to Moshe Tiomkin, Head of the Municipal Transportation Unit, that special buses will be allocated for immigrant workers and asylum seekers, or alternatively to limit their access to public transportation at rush hour. According to the letter, “since these workers sleep in parks and stairways and do not shower on a daily basis, they have a terrible smell and may spread diseases.”

In addition, the new state lacks food and proper infrastructure. Predictions for 2012 are that the situation will get worse. The high court of justice approved the IDF decision to demolish part of the home of Qassem al-Mughrabi. In 2008 Al-Mughrabi ran his car into a group of soldiers and civilians standing on a traffic island in the center of Jerusalem. He was fatally shot during the incident.

The Israeli Prison Service parole committee decided to cut the sentence of police officer Shachar Mizrahi, who shot and killed Mahmud Gnaim, when the latter tried to steal a vehicle. Mizrahi was charged and convicted of manslaughter, and sentenced (after appealing to the Supreme Court) to 30 months in prison. He will be released in April 2012, instead of February 2013.
